Dedication for Gordon Whitcomb
Although Gordon had only lived in the Barnhill area of Kinnoull Hill for some five years he had come to love the woodland and its trees rising up behind his house. He could often been seen out with his camera walking the slopes.
Glasgow-born Gordon came to live in Perth in retirement following a distinguished career in the European Space Agency where he became Head of Future Science Projects at ESTEC in the Netherlands.
He joined the Kinnoull Hill Woodland Group and put much effort into helping with the Open Days. He also designed and developed the Group’s website. He served on the Aitken Arboretum Committee bringing much wisdom to the establishment of the Arboretum.
His untimely death on January 13, 2010 robbed Kinnoull Hill of a devoted guardian.
He had also found time for many other activities in Perth with Rotary, with Probus and as a member of The Royal Perth Golfing Society. And he had developed a new passion for fly-fishing.
He will be sadly missed, not just by his family, but by his neighbours and his many friends. His colleagues in the Kinnoull Hill Woodland Group and on the Arboretum Committee, and with a donation from Perth & Kinross Council, have dedicated the planting of trees in his name. His memory will live on through these trees in the Aitken Arboretum. |
